This recently constructed bridge is part of Tengapura Panchayat’s Sikti block, which is located on the India-Nepal border.
The newly constructed bridge on Padriya Ghat of the Bakra River collapsed before to its opening. This bridge was set to connect the Sikti and Kursakanta blocks shortly after its inauguration.
This bridge, built at a cost of Rs 7 crore 79 lakh 60 thousand, was created after the approach path of the previous bridge was severed. People claim that the bridge was built with poor materials.
At the departmental level, efforts began to rebuild the bridge’s approach way. However, before that, the bridge collapsed and splintered.
Bihar has a lengthy history of bridge collapses. Nine bridges have fallen in the previous three years alone. Many of these bridges collapsed during the construction process, while others collapsed a few days before the opening.
Bihar Bridge Collapse: On June 18, the bridge fell in Araria.
On June 18, 2024, the bridge across the Padariya Ghat of the Bakra River in Araria’s Sikti block fell. This bridge was erected to link the Sikti and Kursakatta blocks.
This bridge’s construction is a story in itself. Floods had left the river bank far away when the bridge was first built.
Construction was restarted at a cost of Rs 12 crore to connect the bridge to the riverbank, but on June 18, the bridge collapsed.

The NHAI was constructing a bridge over the Kosi River between Bheja in Madhubani and Bakaur in Supaul. Meanwhile, on March 22, 2024, a portion of the bridge fell in Bakaur.
This catastrophe claimed the life of one laborer and left nine others gravely injured. This bridge cost approximately 1200 crores to construct.

On January 16, 2023, a bridge collapsed in the Darbhanga district. This bridge, located on the Kamla Balan river, connected Darbhanga to Madhubani, Saharsa, and Samastipur.
Conclusion
The numerous bridge collapses in Bihar, including the recent accident in Araria, point to major issues with construction quality and oversight. Despite enormous spending, infrastructure breakdowns expose widespread corruption and carelessness in government projects. Regular bridge collapses not only waste public funds, but they also endanger lives and disrupt transportation. To prevent such disasters, immediate efforts must be made to preserve high standards, accountability, and transparency in public infrastructure projects.
