PM Modi Makes History As He Equalls The Record Of Nehru.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi made history on Sunday by taking the oath of office for a third term, becoming the first non-Congress leader and the second after Jawaharlal Nehru to accomplish what few thought was possible for a BJP leader before he shook up national politics in 2014. His third term, which appeared to be inevitable, did not arrive with the massive mandate that he and his party had claimed with customary arrogance, as did the Congress and its followers in India.
However, it is a testament to his towering political presence that the BJP’s third-best tally of 240 seats is viewed as a disappointment by the party’s ardent supporters and projected as a “moral defeat” by the Congress, whose own tally of 99 seats, its third worst, is hailed by the opposition party.
The BJP-led National Democratic partnership gained 293 seats, which Modi described as the greatest success for any pre-election partnership where no single party secured a majority.
